With the depletion of fossil energy and ever-increasing challenge of environment deterioration, finding clean and safe new energy resources and improving the efficiency of energy utilization have become an urgent topic to be addressed for the development of a sustainable society. One of the most important ways to solve such a serious problem is through developing energy devices that are highly efficient and utilize materials of low cost and long life. The study of materials science is therefore expected to play a critical role in establishing a modern and sustainable society, which is built based on the production, transportation, distribution and storage of clean electrical and chemical energy.
